Travel back in time and immerse yourself in 18th-century British culture! Join us Wednesday, December 13, 5:30-7:30 p.m., for a tour and special holiday reception at the charming Lewis Walpole Library in Farmington - a Yale "gem" that is home to a world-class collection from this period in English history.
What’s the Yale connection? Wilmarth Lewis (YC 1918), who bequeathed his estate, including his library and art collection, to Yale University. The Lewis Walpole Library is a department of the Yale University Library.
Lewis was fascinated by 18th-century British culture and amassed a sizable collection of writings, manuscripts, prints, and decorative arts from this period, including numerous writings of the prolific Horace Walpole, son of England’s first prime minister. This collection lives at the Lewis Walpole Library at 154 Main Street, Farmington, Lewis’s residence for more than five decades, from 1926 through 1979.
Please join us! We’ll ring in the holidays at a reception in the home’s gracious library, decorated for the holidays, and have an opportunity to learn about this unique collection during a brief tour. What better way to kick off the holiday season!
$25.00/person for Yale Club of Hartford members and one guest.
$30.00/person for all others.
Includes the tour, sumptuous hors d’oeuvres from Tallulah’s Caterers, and wine and other beverages.
