The History and Influence of Morocco with Prof. Paul Freedman

Please join us on Tuesday, April 20 via Zoom as Yale Professor Paul Freedman presents an online tour of Morroco's historic landmarks and stunning landscapes. His presentation will include a discussion of the cultural, architectural, and culinary influence of Morocco on the world, particularly Spain. Among the many stops on this virtual tour will be Marrakech, Morocco (often referred to as the “Red City") and The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, the world’s seventh-largest mosque which took five years of intensive labor by over 30,000 workers.

Professor Freedman is the Chester D. Tripp Professor of History and Former Chair of the History Department at Yale University. He specializes in an unusual and fascinating juxtaposition of subjects: medieval social history, the history of Catalonia, comparative studies of the peasantry, trade in luxury goods, and the history of cuisine. Yale Club of Hartford members may remember Prof. Freedman's excellent presentation at our Annual Meeting in 2019 on the topic of "Ten Restaurants that Changed America".

Suggested donation is $15 for Club members and their guests, and $25 for non-members. We kindly ask participants to also consider an additional donation to support the Yale Club's many worthy activities, which include sponsoring summer interns to work in the Hartford area and volunteer events in service to our community. If you have not formally joined our Club, now is your chance to do so.

We look forward to seeing you on April 20!
